How are my items shipped?Original Paintings Original paintings vary by size and may need to be shipped using different materials. Most small oil/acrylic/mixed media paintings and all soft pastel paintings are wrapped in protective materials and packaged in a corrugated cardboard box or are cradled in a sandwich of foam board. Typically, oil/acrylic/mixed media paintings with a side longer than 48 inches are removed from their stretcher bars, rolled, and shipped in a tube to be re-stretched at their destination. I'm happy to help you through this process - just ask!

-
What medium do you paint in?I work in a variety of medium, including oil, acrylic, watercolor, and mixed medium. I am currently working a lot in soft pigment pastel. These soft pigment pastels are pure, vibrant sticks of powdered pigment—essentially the same rich color used in oil paints, but without the liquid binder. This means every stroke is loaded with intense, luminous color that stays true over time. They allow me to layer, blend, and create velvety textures you can almost feel with your eyes. Because they’re applied directly by hand, the connection between artist and artwork is immediate and intimate—every mark holds the energy of the moment it was made. The result is a piece that glows with depth, movement, and a softness that draws you in.
-
When do you release new original work?I generally release new work in collections 3-4 times a year. The best way to stay informed of new releases is to sign up for my newsletter and follow along on Instagram.

Is your art sold framed? All of my art is sold unframed. This allows you full freedom to select a frame that matches your unique style. Working with a local professional framer can make all the difference in showcasing and protecting your piece of original art.
-
What units of measurement do you use for your art?All artwork and products are measured in inches unless otherwise stated.
-
Will the colors match what I see on my screen?I strive to ensure the colors you see online are as close as possible to the actual artwork. However, screen monitors can vary. If you need more photos of a specific piece, just let me know—I'm happy to help!
-

What is a commission?Simply put, a commission painting is a way of saying that we work one-on-one to create a special painting just for you.
-
How can I commission a painting?I accept a limited number of commissions each year to balance custom work with other projects. When I'm open for commissions, I announce it on Instagram and through my newsletter. Stay tuned for updates!
-
What is your most popular type of commission?I love this question! Typically, my most common type of commission are variations of my past work.
-
Will you replicate a painting for me?I like to ensure that each client's piece is original, so I never set out to exactly replicate a painting. However, I'm happy to create a different version of an existing painting that is similar yet unique. We can bring your idea to life without replicating another painting!
-
Will you create an initial sketch of the commission for me?No, sorry! I paint quite intuitively and the piece of art evolves through my process, therefore creating a sketch to adhere to doesn't allow me to do my best work. However, before starting a painting, we chat about important details to include in the piece, the overall composition, colors, and other paintings of mine that you like. All of this information combined allows me to bring our vision to life.
-
I don't have one image that is exactly what I want. Are you able to combine different elements of what I love from different photos into one awesome work of art?Absolutely! That's the fun and freedom of creating a custom painting. We can play with colors, composition, scale... I'm open to any ideas within the scope of my style and subject matters I paint.
-
How do I figure out what size painting would be best for my space? The easiest way to find the ideal sized painting for you is to measure your space and tape the dimensions of the painting you're considering with painters tape. I'm happy to provide feedback and suggestions on the size if you send a few photos of your space where your future painting will live. You can also use this sizing guide to get the perfect size for your space: Art should take up 2/3 to 3/4 of your wall space. Measure the height and width of your wall and then multiply them by both .66 and .75 to find your minimum and maximum. You can use the same calculation to find the range of sizes of art to best fit above a piece of furniture. For example, if your sofa table is 5 feet wide, multiply 5 by .66 and .75. In this case, a piece of art between 3.3 feet and 3.75 feet wide will look great above the sofa table. Remember—you can combine multiple pieces to achieve the right size! Quick Reference Guide
-
How do I pay for my commission?Once you have signed the commission contract, I will send you an invoice for 50% of the total price. The invoice allows for payment through credit card, but if you'd like to pay by e-transfer, that works too! Once the painting is complete, you'll receive an invoice for the remaining 50%.
-
I would like to commission a painting as a gift for someone. Can you complete it in time?Potentially! This depends on a number of factors (my commission schedule, the size and complexity of the painting). Please include the date you need it by in your initial request and we can discuss. Generally speaking, having a bit of a flexible schedule is best when it comes to custom paintings.
-
Can I request changes to my commissioned paintingDuring the commission process I will send along progress photos, and we can chat about any changes (colors, small composition changes) you desire. When the painting is complete, there is another opportunity to make very small changes before the painting is varnished. Once the painting is approved, signed and varnished, there can be no changes made.
-
Who holds the rights to the artwork?I retain all rights to the artwork I create, including images of sold and commissioned pieces. Buyers may not reproduce the artwork without written permission. You have the right to display the artwork in your home or business, but it cannot be resold or reproduced without my consent.
-
Will you paint my loved one or my pet? There are lots of great artists who do portraits! That's not something I paint. Please take a look at my previous collections or Instagram account to get a sense of my painting style.
-
Are you open to collaborations?Absolutely! I love collaborating with fellow creatives. Email me at pamelagilesart@gmail.com with your idea, and let's create something beautiful together.
